Award Winners​

The J. Sherman Pelt Scholarship winners will be notified in writing and the names will be posted on the Pelt Foundation website. Photos may be requested and posted on the website as well. The funds will be distributed in two equal payments with the first payment in August and the second payment in January. To be eligible for the second half of the scholarship funds transcripts and evidence of continued enrollment must be submitted.  

The purpose of the J. Sherman Pelt Scholarship is to aid in the creation of a brighter future for students, ongoing support of educational advancement and empowerment of the faith community. 

Submission Process

Two categories of scholarships will be awarded annually to be selected by the J. Sherman Pelt Scholarship Committee. Applicants will be eligible for only one award per year and must submit an application either as a Seminary Student (Category I) or LBC Atlanta Member (Category II).

Application Timeline​

Seminary Students (Category I)
  • Two or more scholarships will be awarded to Baptist (by denomination, polity & tradition) seminary students pursuing a Masters of Divinity or a Doctorate degree in a field related to ministry.  One scholarship will be reserved for a qualified Interdenominational Theological Center/Morehouse School of Religion (ITC/MSR) student.
  • The Scholarship amount is $1,000.00.
  • Academic merit (GPA 3.0 or higher), a record of servant-leadership and evidence of a commitment to Christian Education and Ministry are the primary criteria for selection.
  • Prior awardees are eligible to apply and may receive scholarships for a maximum of two (2) years. 
LBC Members (Category II)
  • One or more scholarships will be awarded to active members of the Liberty Baptist Church-Atlanta who are pursuing Associate, Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate degrees.
  • The Scholarship amount is $1,000.00.
  • Be a participant in one or more church ministries (If you are currently attending college in another city you must have been active in one or more church ministries prior to your relocation).
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Prior awardees are eligible to apply and may receive scholarships for a maximum of four (4) years.

Renewal Applicants

Eligibility Requirements

Complete the Renewal Application if you are a prior receipient of the J. Sherman Pelt Scholarship and there is no change in your academic institution. The same selection criteria used for first time applicants remain applicable for the renewal process. Prior seminary (Category I) awardees are eligible to apply and may receive scholarships for a maximum of two (2) years. Prior LBC-Atlanta (Category II) awardees are eligible to apply and may receive scholarships for a maximum of four (4) years. The Scholarship amount is $1,000.00. Applicants will be eligible for only one award per year and must submit an application either as a Seminary Student (Category I) or LBC Atlanta Member (Category II).
